Cindy McLeod Biography

Cindy McLeod has been performing as a jazz vocalist for over 40 years in Canada and around the globe.

McLeod has performed and/or recorded with Canadian jazz notables Tommy Banks, Hugh Fraser, P.J. Perry, Miles Black, Bob Erlendson, Linton Garner, Brian Buchanan, Bob Stroup, Kent Sangster, Tom Doran, and Bob Tildesley, as well as international artists such as Keith Copeland (Frankfurt), Stephen O'Connor (US, Mexico), Steve York (UK, Mexico), Quyen Van Minh (Vietnam), Victor Mestas (Venezuela) and Roberto Aymes (Mexico City), to name a few. She has released three full length CDs, Easy Living, Ask Me Now and Conversation With Love. A talented lyricist, Cindy has composed lyrics for jazz instrumentals penned by the masters and in collaborations with composers from Canada, Mexico and Venezuela.

Cindy's writing credits include her Canadian Jazz Elements blog, as contributor to internet-based jazz sources Jazz Review, ejazznews, Jazz News and the Maple Blues newsletter. She also writes copy for radio, print and other advertising and promotional items. The prestigious Canadian Music Institute of the University of Toronto published Cindy's article featuring Canadian trumpeter Maynard Ferguson.

A founder of the Calgary Blues Music Association (CBMA) as well as the Calgary International Blues Festival and the Calgary Midwinter Bluesfest, Cindy acts as Producer and Artistic Director for the organization and has been instrumental in creating what has become one of the largest blues music festivals in Western Canada. Cindy brings a host of skills to the not for profit organization. In 2019, Cindy was invited by the Consulate General of Canada in Atlanta, GA, to sit as part of a panel of 4 industry experts during the International Blues Challenge in Memphis. During 2020-21, Cindy created one of the largest digital libraries of the blues. The Calgary Bluesfest channel is quickly gaining popularity for viewers and from musicians, for every time a video is viewed, artists are paid (and a great deal more than a fraction of a penny!).

Cindy produces major concerts in Calgary for world-class jazz vocalists, including presentations with Sheila Jordan, Gino Sitson, and Jay Clayton; and contracts her services to other presenters, among them: Afrikadey! (General Manager 2003-04); Calgary Wordfest (Stage Manager 1997-2014); BBQ on the Bow, Production and Event Manager 2006-15), and Heritage Park (Emcee, Voice Over Artist 2005-present).

Cindy's voice-over work in the studio can be heard on several advertisements , and live for Alberta Showcase, Heritage Park and more, and she's an emcee for multiple events and shows.

As a publicist, Cindy has been contracted by numerous artists and by organizations such as Alliance Francaise, Universal Records, and the Canadian Music Centre, Prairie Region.

With a strong commitment to the arts and the future of the industry, Cindy invests in emerging and established artists through artist development, and is a regarded voice clinician (workshops, clinics, private).

A recognized leader in Canadian music, Cindy has been asked to sit on multiple juries for the Western Canadian Music Awards (WCMA), Eastern Canadian Music Awards (ECMA), PEI Awards, JUNO, Harvard, FACTOR, the International Blues Challenge/Edmonton (2012), and the Mayor's Arts Awards (2014-16), and has sat on various Boards including Calgary Blues Music Association (2005-12), Jazz Is Society of Alberta (2010-11), JazzYYC (2011-13), the Alberta Music Industry Association (2012-2014), PAL Calgary (2020 - present) and the Arts Touring Alliance of Alberta (2015 to 2021).

Cindy received the 2019 Industry Person of the Year Award for Calgary's YYC Music Awards, the prestigious Maple Blues award, Blues Booster of the Year (2021), and in 2022, the Rhoda Taylor Award for outstanding contributions to the arts in the province of Alberta.
